Social Media and Giving

Using Facebook (and other tools) to promote your organization is gaining in popularity, and several interesting developments are worth reading about.

Facebook’s Causes application has partnered with Network for Good, Parade and the Case Foundation to engage in an interesting giving challenge that you can read all about here. America’s Giving Challenge lasts for 30 days until November 6, 2009. Let us know if your organization decides to participate.

Today’s Chronicle of Philanthropy’s online discussion featured a conversation about using Facebook to promote your organization. Read the article here.

And earlier this month, Jaci Russo of The Russo Group began teaching a class to nonprofits in Acadiana about social media tools. The class is sponsored by the Stuller Family Foundation.

Cause-related marketing helps out local animals in need!

Great Harvest Bread Company

Great Harvest Bread Company is getting in on the cause-related marketing trend with some treats for your favorite four-legged friends!

Cause-related marketing is the linking of a for-profit business with a nonprofit organization for mutual benefit. In the case of Great Harvest, sales of their dog treats are benefiting local animals in need.

Throughout July and August, they donated $1 from every $4 bag of dog treats to Lafayette Animal Aid. In September and October, 25% of the Dog Treat sales will go to St. Martin Humane Society. Go buy some delicious food for yourself and your favorite pet and help a local organization all at the same time.
